Book Review: Saving the Ghost

Saving the Ghost was written by ME Fuller and was independently published in 2019. You can purchase it on Amazon/Kindle, and you can visit the author on Amazon and on social media.

Magnificent storyteller! Her characters are so real on the page, I could feel their heartbeat. Their emotions gripped and saturated me.

Ellen McInnis was the victim of rape by her father when she was a child. At 17 years of age, she moved on in her life, putting distance between her and her abusive parents but she decided not to tell anyone except for her best friend and her husband, regarding the horrors that she suffered as a child. She was able to maintain a successful career and she also enjoyed good relationships with friends and others. But when her father died, she is forced back into the family fold and the traumatic memories of her childhood are brought back to the surface. This proves to be too much for Ellen, and it puts her on the path to total and complete destruction. Out of desperation, she confides in her elderly aunt Mercy, who was there for her as a child. She hopes that Mercy will heal her emotional wounds, but she soon finds out that Mercy is keeping horrible secrets of her own. When Ellen learns of what Mercy kept secret and has lived with all through the years, she is even more devastated, and her world continues to crumble all around her. She learns that her family has lived an unimaginable lie and now, Ellen wonders how she can survive it all.

ME Fuller is a magnificent storyteller. Her characters are so real on the page that I could feel their heartbeat and their emotions gripped and saturated me. This is a story about the unbelievable pain of one woman and how she endured it all- right up through her senior years. Ellen McInnis is a strong and difficult woman, who I applauded and at times cringed at. The subject matter is raw but so very real to so many of us. Family dysfunction is an understatement in this story. The author cranks it up a few more notches and makes this one a tale I will not soon forget.

This is definitely a top bookshelf read. It's a must read!

I give Saving the Ghost 5 out of 5 stars.

ME Fuller is a scheduled guest on The Writers Lounge Blog Talk Radio Show #147 on March 4, 2024.
